The second chapter of Hiroshi Inagaki’s acclaimed Samurai Trilogy follows the legendary Takezo as he evolves into the more disciplined and enlightened Miyamoto Musashi. Having emerged from years of solitary study, Musashi travels to Kyoto to challenge the prestigious Yoshioka School of fencing, seeking to prove his prowess and refine his spirit.
However, his journey is complicated by the ghosts of his past. While he faces the mounting hostility of the Yoshioka students, he must also navigate the emotional turmoil of Otsu, the woman who loves him, and the vengeful machinations of his former friend Matahachi. The film culminates in the legendary confrontation at the spreading pine tree of Ichijoji Temple, where Musashi must put his philosophy of the sword to the ultimate test against dozens of opponents.
