Stand by Me (1986)

Directed by Rob Reiner, Stand by Me (1986) is a definitive coming-of-age classic that captures the bittersweet transition from childhood to the complexities of the adult world.

Synopsis

Set in the late summer of 1959 in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Oregon, the story follows four young friends: the sensitive Gordie, the tough but vulnerable Chris, the eccentric Teddy, and the timid Vern. When they overhear a conversation about the location of a missing boy’s body, the group embarks on a two-day trek along the railroad tracks, hoping to become local heroes.

What begins as a simple adventure evolves into a profound journey of self-discovery. As they navigate various obstacles—including a mean-spirited gang of older bullies and their own personal fears—the boys share stories, confront their troubled home lives, and grapple with the realisation that their bond may be tested by the inevitable march of time.
