What the Peeper Saw (1972)

Directed by James Kelley, What the Peeper Saw (1972)—also known by the title Night Child—is a chilling psychological thriller that explores themes of innocence, manipulation, and family dysfunction.

Synopsis

The story follows Paul, a wealthy author who returns to his secluded English estate with his new bride, Elise. While Paul hopes for a fresh start, Elise finds herself increasingly unsettled by the behaviour of Paul’s twelve-year-old son, Marcus.

Marcus is highly intelligent but deeply disturbed, harbouring an unhealthy obsession with the mysterious circumstances surrounding his mother’s recent death. As Elise attempts to bond with her new stepson, she becomes the target of his sophisticated and cruel psychological games. The atmosphere grows suffocating as Marcus uses his youthful appearance to mask a predatory nature, forcing Elise to question her own sanity—and her safety—within the walls of their isolated home.
